With its historic buildings and gorgeous canals, Venice is one of Italy’s most famous attractions. This floating city consists of a group of 117 small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges. Sometimes called the “Queen of the Adriatic” or the “City of Water,” Venice offers its visitors an unforgettable experience. Through this Field Learning activity, students will familiarize with the history of Venice, explore its beautiful palaces and basilicas, and gain a taste of authentic Venetian culture.
Itinerary:
Early departure from Florence to Venice. Walking tour and guided visit of main sites (including Piazza San Marco and Santa Maria della Salute). Free time. Return to Florence in the early evening.

Learning outcomes:
- Familiarize with the history of Venice and of the Veneto region
- Assess the achievements of the Renaissance outside of Florence
- Gain a broader knowledge of food and products that are unique to the Italian territory, history, and culture
- Increase critical thinking, especially in relation to the role tourism plays in marketing the history, food, and culture of Italy
- Develop team-building and collaborative skills
- Increase awareness of cultural similarities/ differences
