Torre del Lago is a town in the province of Lucca, between the Lake of Massaciuccoli and the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is famous for its most illustrious citizen, the opera composer Giacomo Puccini. The Festival Puccini, an annual opera festival which attracts around 40,000 attendees, is held in its open-air theatre, a short distance from the Villa where the opera composer lived and worked. In this Field Learning activity, students will have the opportunity to visit a very popular summer destination among Italian tourists and familiarize themselves with the history of this small town which is of crucial importance within the Italian cultural scene.

Itinerary: 

Morning departure from Florence to Torre del Lago. Guided visit of Torre del Lago’s town center, guided visit of main sites including Villa Puccini Museum and walking tour of Lago Massaciuccoli. Tasting of local products, free time on the beach. Return to Florence in the early evening.

Learning outcomes:
