Empoli is a small town roughly 30 km outside of Florence that one can easily reach by frequent trains from Florence to Pisa. Empoli has a long history, and references to the city first appear in documents from the 800s. Because of its location, so close to the important art cities in Tuscany, Empoli does not stand out among the most requested destinations in the region, but upon a closer look, one discovers it offers a wealth of varied attractions. in addition to a rich array of churches and palaces, Empoli is also noteworthy for its local craftsmanship. The traditional manufacturing of glass is still carried on today and plays an important role in supporting the region and local craftsmen.
Vinci, the town closely associated with Leonardo’s life, is a perfect place to spend a day full of culture. There are plenty of things to see in Vinci, many of them related to Leonardo’s life: the house in which he was born, just 3 kilometers from Vinci in the countryside, the church where he was baptized, and the museum and the library that carry his name.
