gaiolebackCHIANTISHIRE AND ITS HISTORY: GAIOLE AND CASTELLO DI BROLIO

Saturday, March 3

Cost: 90€

This activity will lead you to Gaiole in Chianti in the heart of the Chianti Classico region. The Gallo Nero Chianti Classico Wine includes seven municipalities between the cities of Siena and Florence. The emblem of the consortium, the Gallo Nero (“black rooster”) serves as a symbol of quality and excellence of this world-renowned wine, Historically, the Chianti area included only three villages, namely Radda, Castellina and Gaiole. The area is marked by castles, abbeys, and of course some of the best Chianti producers.

Among these producers is the Castello di Brolio, still owned by the heirs of the Baron Ricasoli, a figure who played a major role in the government of the new Italian Kingdom for a time after the unification of Italy, and also created the first grape-formula for the production of Chianti Classico. The history of the Chianti Classico is connected to this family more than any other in Tuscany.
