Monteriggioni is one of the most impressive walled towns in Tuscany. Nestled in the province of Siena, between Siena and Colle Val d’Elsa, this medieval town maintains an incredibly preserved structure and elegantly dominates the surrounding landscape. A typical fortified village, its mighty towers can be seen for miles. Towers that once impressed Dante Alighieri so much that in his Divine Comedy he compared them to “horrific giants”. From Dante Alighieri to the Assassin’s Creed saga, Monteriggioni has been playing with people’s imagination for centuries. In addition to visiting Monteriggioni, students on this Field Learning day will be able to explore the surrounding area and a pleasant walk on the famous Via Francigena will take them to the nearby hamlet of Abbadia Isola and the beautiful Abbey of Saints Salvatore and Cirino.
