With its historic buildings and gorgeous canals, Venice is one of Italy’s most famous attractions. This floating city consists of a group of 117 small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges. Sometimes called the “Queen of the Adriatic” or the “City of Water,” Venice offers its visitors an unforgettable experience. On the first day of this Field Learning, students will have the opportunity to visit Venice’s main sites, including San Marco’s basilica. On the second day, a day trip to the islands of Murano, Burano, and Torcello -  Venice’s most picturesque islands – will give students a taste of authentic Venetian culture.

Itinerary: 

Early departure on Saturday from Florence to Venice.  Arrival in Venice mid-morning, hotel check-in and lunch. After lunch, walking tour of Venice (squares, main roads and main piazzas) and guided visit of San Marco’s Basilica. Free time in the late afternoon and group dinner. On Sunday, day trip to the islands of Murano, Burano, and Torcello. Mid-afternoon departure from Venice to Florence, arrival in Florence early evening.


The activity includes: 

  • Round trip transportation

  • One nights in hotel (shared rooms) with breakfast 
  • One dinner and one lunch
  • Entry fees and guided visit of selected sites

Learning outcomes:

  • Familiarize with the history of Venice and of the Veneto region;
  • Assess the achievements of the Renaissance outside of Florence;
  • Gain a broader knowledge of food and products that are unique to the Italian territory, history, and culture;
  • Increase critical thinking, especially in relation to the role tourism plays in marketing the history, food, and culture of Italy;
  • Develop team-building and collaborative skills;
  • Increase awareness of cultural similarities/differences.
