RENAISSANCE ART AT THE ITALIAN NOBLE COURTS:
FERRARA AND THE ESTE FAMILY

This activity takes place in a city which was at the center of the Renaissance, thanks to the influence of the family, the Estes, which ruled it.
During the visit, students will be immersed in the idea(l)s of Humanism and the Renaissance, retracing the roots of modern and contemporary social and artistic movements.

Itinerary:
Early morning departure from Florence to Ferrarra. Guided visit to different sites, including Palazzo Schifanoia and the fresco cycle 'Of the Months'. Lunch based on tasting of local products. Walking tour of the city center, and free time to explore the city. Return to Florence in the afternoon.

Learning outcomes:

  • Define the Renaissance ideals of rationality and humanism.
  • Analyze the relationship between humanism and architecture in the Renaissance.
  • Describe the historical transition from Feudal to Renaissance society in Northern Italy and the development of the City States of Central Italy in the 16th century.
  • Recognize the roots of Regionalism in the different historical developments of the Italian Cities.
  • Describe the evolution of the culture and art of the Renaissance in Italy.
